Mezcal, a traditional Mexican spirit, is carefully distilled from the heart of the agave plant. It has a close connection with Mexican culture, offering a wide range of flavours and a strong sense of identity. Officially certified mezcal is sourced from one of nine legally recognised Mexican states and can only then be called mezcal.

How is mezcal made?

When an agave plant reaches maturity, the ‘piña’ is carefully harvested and roasted in earthen pits, giving it a unique smoky flavour. After the juice is extracted, it naturally ferments, and is then distilled in copper or clay stills. Through a detailed process, the agave's essence is carefully extracted, resulting in the distinctive and genuine flavour profile of Nedstar's smoked agave spirit.

Difference between mezcal and tequila

Mezcal and tequila, both Mexican agave-based spirits, differ primarily in agave types, production regions, and methods. Tequila exclusively uses blue agave, while mezcal can come from various agave species, offering a wider flavour range. Mezcal is known for its smoky profile, crafted through traditional pit-roasting methods, while tequila often undergoes more industrialized production, like baking in ovens. These distinctions in ingredients and production contribute to the distinctive characteristics that make each spirit unique.
