Rice alcohol is neutral spirit derived from fermented rice. Especially in various Asian cultures, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean traditions, this raw material has a rich cultural history that spans thousands of years in the form of rice wine. Next to famous Asian drinks, neutral rice ethanol can also be used in industrial settings to replace ethanol from other raw material origins.

The versatile rice drink exists in various forms, most prominently in the beverage sector: sake (Japanese rice wine), mirin (a sweet cooking wine used in Japanese cuisine), baijiu (Chinese liquor), and other traditional rice wines like makgeolli (Korean rice wine) and Shaoxing wine (Chinese rice wine) make famously use of rice alcohol. These beverages are produced by fermenting different types of rice grains, each contributing unique characteristics to the final product.
In non-food sectors, rice alcohol is especially popular in the cosmetics industry. Being known for its restoring and strengthening properties, it is growingly used in tonics, shampoos, and other personal care products.
The unique production process and distinct flavour profiles set rice wine apart from other raw materials. Unlike other distilled spirits, rice wine retains a smooth, slightly sweet taste, often with a subtle umami note, making it a popular choice for both drinking and cooking. As a neutral spirit, however, rice is a great alternative to other grains such as wheat and barley.
If you do not use rice alcohol for food and beverage grade products, we can denature it for you. In that case, the product will be exempt from excise duty. You can choose from a variety of denaturing agents that fit your regional regulations such as DEP, MEK, Bitrex, IPA or Euro Denatured.
